Concrete and Drywall

We poured concrete while our drywall crew busily hung and textured the inside.

We ordered 7 yards of concrete, but it sure seems like we only got 6 since we still had 25' of sidewalk that was empty when the pump ran empty.

The drywall crew was amazing, 14+ hour days nonstop for 5 days getting the whole job done.

Another Day, Another dollar someone didn't pay me for my work!!!

We got alot done this weekend, my parents came in from utah, so they helped with everything.

we finally got rid of the concrete volcano, it took a jackhammer for about 3 hours, and a very large hole.

Ready for Drywall

Been busy finishing all the rough trades (electrical, plumbing, etc). I then did the insulation as quickly as I could, that was a nightmare.

but now it is all done and ready for drywall.

Heading Inside

Well, since we have almost completed the outside (windows, siding, and paint etc), we decided to move inside and start the rough trades. Here are pictures of inside the addition and internal wall that will be removed when it is all finished. As you can see from the inside picture, the joys of building involve tools etc spread throughout the entire house. Amy loves it!!!

Exterior Paint

We finally made it to painting the outside of the addition.

I borrowed a sprayer from the Skeltons and shot the whole thing in about 2 hours. Then put about 2 hours of rolling paint for trim. Amy is really proud of how well the tie-in to the existing house looks (she made me rip off the way I did it and re-do it all before I could paint).

Looks like a house

we have put a ton of work into the outside (siding, trim, etc)

all that is left is for us to paint!

Faustos Roofing

We have a roof! Finally got the sheathing signed off and in an amazingly short amount of time, the roof just appeared. And by the look of the clouds not a minute too soon.

Ready for the Roof

We have put alot of work in the past few weeks trying to beat the monsoons coming. We failed. But, my pre-roof inspection is tomorrow, and the roofer comes Tuesday to stop the rain from entering our dining room!

If the roof gets put on Tuesday, we should have the door and windows in this week also.

Truss' Part Duex

Another Saturday of fun, Jim Acer, Ryan Keller, and Dave Charon were all suckered in to coming out to the house and putting in 5 hours of work. We got off to a slow start since we had trouble deciding on the best way to get the first truss placed. Once we got going though it went really well. We set 10 trusses in all, and laid alot of the ground work for the big truss which will hold up the load bearing wall which will be removed.

Setting Truss'

The Truss' showed up this week, and at the last minute, I decided to have a crane come out and set the bundle on the walls in order to save a lot of time and effort when we frame the roof. I figured it would be nice to do this for my crew that is doing the roof. (especially since the crew is unpaid!!!!)

Framing (First Half)

Framing finally started. Saturday June 14th, we had a large crew of about 8 guys come help raise the walls. Earl was the "boss man" for the day, and kept us working in the right direction. We raised the 27' wall first, then moved on to the 20' wall with the french doors, and finished the day with completing most of the other 20' wall which has two windows.

concrete pour

On Monday June 9th we had 16 yards of concrete poured into our pad. 8 inches thick in the middle, and 12 inches thick on the outer two feet. Paid a crew to come out and finish the concrete.

Post Tension

Post tension crew came up from phoenix on a saturday, we had to cut 7 existing cables, remove them and replace them with longer cables that will be continious through both slabs.

Week 2

Nothing visually significant has changed on the pad in 2 weeks, but boy have we sure been working on in.
Found out that we dug the footings 4" too shallow with the mini excavator, and therefore Amy and I dug the remaining 4" of clay soil by hand. Not Fun!

Have been laying and tying re-bar getting ready to pour the footings.

Brandon and Amy's house addition

We decided that it was time to stretch out a little.

On May 3, 2008 we broke ground on a 20' x 27' (540 sqft) house addition.

We doug the trench for the sewer line for the new bathroom, footings, and removed/replaced alot of backyard dirt.

Fajitas for lunch, and ice cream sandwiches throughout the day.

We had a good crew there to kick the project off:

My Dad
Jason Alger (with tractor/trailer)
Don Rusinsky
Karl Bunker
